Longwear Lip Liners
Mac Pro Longwear Lip Pencil Nice N Spicy Perfume
I love longwear lip liners because they make lip product stay on longer but most of all, with all the lip enhancement (read: overdrawing of my upper lip and evening out of my lip line), I love that it does not wear down leaving a tell tale sign of my lip “cheating”. Nothing is more low classy than a liner outline (as in the inner colour on your lips has worn off and left a ring around the mouth) blech!!
So once again I bring you two equally performing products that are interchangeable in my kit.
Can you see the difference?
So the two products I am comparing are:
Revlon
ColorStay Lipliner
in Nude
Longwear Lip Liners
Left: Revlon ColorStay Lipliner (roll up lead)
Right: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil (sharpening lead)
Here’s the breakdown:
MAC | Revlon | |
quantity | 1.2g | 0.28g |
price | $23 cdn ($19 per gram) | $11.99 cdn ($43 per gram) |
colour range | 10 shades | 7 shades |
longevity | equal | equal |
consistency | smooth and creamy | smooth and creamy |
packaging | Sharpening Pencil | Roll up Liner |
Lead: thicker but you can sharpen to a point | Lead: slimmer creating thin lines | |
ease of use | Product Application: applies easily because the formula is creamy but dries down relatively quickly; thicker lead allows for easy full lip fill in | Product Application: easily applied, with quick dry down; although slim line is more time consuming when filling in the entire lip (which is my preference) |
learning curve: typical to this type of formula: once dry, reapplying product overtop of existing liner tends to look dry, cakey and uneven in colour depth | same as MAC sample |
These are great liners that I use frequently in my work. I believe they give a comparable result – creamy, smooth application that gives a full coverage with a decent range of colour options and, of course, incredible wear. There are very minor differences but I feel these differences do not affect the performance of these products. For instance, the roll up lead of the Revlon ColorStay Lipliner is really convenient especially for on the go types who do not want to fumble around with sharpeners. This style of packaging is also really great to create a super precise lip line because of the really sharp edge of a thinner lead. On the other hand, using a traditional sharpening liner with a thicker lead allows me to fill in lips completely with ease. There is also the question about price: yes the MAC is more expensive and one can say that some of the product gets wasted through sharpening but enough waste to account for a $24/g price difference – I think not. People – you are paying for the convenience of this packaging. TIP: When you find similar performing products, its important to look beyond the price for the item and look at the price per quantity of useable product. Marketers often skew the consumers perception of value by using larger packaging, weighting a package (this means adding weight so that it feels heavy and therefore the illusion of more – I know those tricky devils), etc., etc.
Good news is, like most mass brands, the Revlon ColorStay Lipliners can often be found on sale.
