Link Open With - Browser/Mail
  1. Links not opening from Mail in AVG secure browser So I installed AVG secure browser and set it as my default browser and now links in emails in the windows Mail app won't open. If I change the default browser to anything else (edge, IE, Chrome) the links work fine so the problem seems to be with the AVG secure browser.
  2. When email links are clicked, the Google Chrome browser opens – showing the home page. Outlook or any other email client does not open.

Problem

Open your browser. In the address bar at the top, type in google.com, then push Enter or Return. Make sure you're able to load Google.com. Once this loads, make sure you're able to search. Type something in the Search box, then select Google Search. Make sure search results load properly.

When email links are clicked, the Google Chrome browser opens – showing the home page.

Outlook or any other email client does not open.

Solution

To fix, you need to change the mail handler in Windows 10.

In this example we’ll be changing email links to open Outlook.

Teams link opens with browser
  1. Click on the Windows start button (bottom left of your screen)
  2. Click on the ‘Settings’ cog
  3. Click on ‘Apps’
  4. Open ‘Default apps’
  5. Under ‘Email’ click on the icon and select ‘Outlook (desktop)’
  6. Email links (mailto links) will now open a new message in Outlook.
